NEW YORK DRAMA CRITICS’ CIRCLE AWARD FOR BEST AMERICAN PLAY
A play created by August Wilson – an African-American playwright. This play is set in the 1920s not long after the abolition of slavery during the blues era and the birth of jazz slowly creeping in. August wrote this play in the 1980s and seeing it performed in 2018 is jarring because of the content explored. So much of this play relates to modern black communities and addresses the issues they face and brings awareness forward for change.
August Wilson is alive today with the legacy of his work and it truly is an honour to bring it to life.
