CBC: The Move

CBC Arts, Lucius Dechausay
Dancer, Choreographer Esie Mensah

I’m proud of this other part of me that’s asking me to do more than just dance. I am my ancestors so I have to keep doing the work.”

I was selected to be a part of Canada’s top eight choreographers to share my story and in CBC’S series – The Move: Season II. To see more click here.

I give thanks to the ancestors for clearing the path for me to be featured in season two of CBC’s The Move, where I had a wonderful time working with senior producer Romeo Candido and producer Lucius Dechausay. I, along with 8 other choreographers were given the opportunity to share how our movement styles communicate and connect with our audiences, and I especially had a wonderful time dancing to Bonjay’s Ingenue (my first time hearing the track was the day we filmed) under Lucius’ guidance.  During this process I was fortunate to be recognized in a full feature article for The Hamilton Spectator, written by Graham Rockingham. I hope that in the process of chronicling my journey, other dancers receive assurance that while their paths won’t look like mine, theirs is meant for them.

Eight of Canada's top choreographers share their astonishing moves — and the incredible stories behind why they dance in The Move: Season II. Find out more and stream the full series now on CBC Gem.
