From working with megastars like Rihanna, Drake and Arcade Fire...

…to historic brands like Coca-Cola, TIFF and the Toronto Raptors, this powerhouse of a woman shows no sign of slowing down.

For her own work, Esie has committed to using Afrofusion to explore more personal narratives of her Ghanaian heritage, blackness, and belonging, and has created works ZAYO and the Dora Award-nominated Shades, a piece that uncovers the process of healing from shadeism in the Black community.

She was a featured speaker at TEDxToronto 2019, where she spoke about her experience as a dark-skinned dancer and the process of creating her Dora-nominated production ​Shades​. Her short film, A Revolution of Love, opened Toronto History Museum’s ongoing Awakenings initiative alongside works by celebrity Chef Roger Mooking and Director X. 

Her next short film, Tessel, made in collaboration with The Harbourfront Centre and Fall For Dance North features 14 black dancers from across Canada and will premiere online on June 1st, 2021.

As a choreographer, Esie uses each artistic opportunity to express her creativity through the art of movement and dance. She designs and directs performances that have inspired others to share in her innovative ideas.

As a Movement Director, Esie Mensah works closely with directors, artists and performers to transform movement into a physical language. Esie’s work lends itself in a variety of production settings that includes theatre and television.

Esie was a featured speaker at TEDxToronto 2019, where she spoke about her experience as a dark-skinned dancer and the process of creating her Dora-nominated production ​Shades​.   

As an artistic advisor and educator, Esie has been using her voice to bring more inclusive practices to the Canadian Dance industry through discussions, workshops and seminars.
